Two of Canada’s finest string players will play an intimate, acoustic concert at the historic Sundog Trading Post in Yellowknife NWT on Thursday June 23rd. An all-ages show, with beer/ wine/ appetizers/ coffee/ etc. for sale.

Music on the program ranges from some of the most widely-performed works for string duos (or solos - hello Bach!), as well as gorgeous and passionate music by Canadian composers + arrangers.
Stretching over 300 years of time (including a piece by JUNO-award-winner Jocelyn Morlock from 2019), this will be the exciting START to the Longshadow Music Festival, celebrating music of today in the context of the past!

Join Grandmaster Fiddler Daniel Gervais and friends as fiddling and classical collide at the Yk Elk’s Lodge on Friday June 24th. Specific program to be called from the stage, but you can expect to hear world-class fiddling, extraordinary interpretations of classical masterpieces, and the magical moments with genres collide. In the hands of Daniel Gervais, as well as supporting musicians Robert Uchida, Rafael Hoekman and Keith Hamm (all 3 are principal Edmonton Symphony Orchestra musicians!), this evening will be a captivating journey of musical intersections.
Special featured performer will be Wesley Hardisty, the Emerging Artist for this Longshadow Music Festival. Wesley will perform some of his original works as well as collaborations with the other string players from Longshadow 2022.

Feature Festival Concert

World-class string players will grace the NACC stage on June 25th to bring a gala feature concert to the Longshadow Music Festival. The concert will celebrate music made in the contemporary world, yet with a connection to the music that has shaped our world in the past. Northern + Canadian music will be a special feature!
Join four of Alberta’s top chamber musicians: Robert Uchida (concertmaster of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO)), Rafael Hoekman (principal cello of the ESO), Daniel Gervais (Grandmaster Fiddler and violinist), and Keith Hamm (principal viola of the ESO). These players will celebrate music of internationally acclaimed Canadian composers Dinuk Wijeratne and Carmen Braden as well as a masterpiece by Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. Opening the show will be Yellowknife’s acclaimed fiddler+violinist Andrea Bettger.

Sunday June 26th- Free Family Friendly Outdoor Concert
Somba K’e Plaza

Bring a picnic, bring the kids, and join musicians from the Longshadow Music Festival for a free outdoor concert at Somba K’e Plaza. From 11am-12pm on Sunday June 26th, four world-class string players from Alberta will play chamber music works from classics to fiddle to contemporary. This will be a free, family-friendly, fun outdoor performance! Also will feature the Fiddle Cats with Andrea Bettger!
